North Sarasota and Desoto Lakes include the Newtown community and surrounding inland neighborhoods, where county health reports show persistent gaps in chronic disease control. We work with residents here to make trial participation practical despite the distance.

Getting to our office

From Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Way, take US-301 or University Parkway to I-75 south, continue past Port Charlotte, exit to Burnt Store Road (CR-765) south into Cape Coral, then Pine Island Road east and Chiquita Boulevard S south.

Local information

• Local points: Newtown's MLK Jr. Way corridor, Desoto Lakes, the University Parkway interchange and Robert L. Taylor Community Complex.
• Sarasota County data show higher rates of uncontrolled hypertension, diabetes and asthma in these neighborhoods than in coastal Sarasota, with fewer nearby specialists.
• Allow about one hour and 30 minutes; SCAT bus service covers local trips, but the visit itself requires a car or ride share.
